John Devine LVO, OBE Head of the Scottish Government in Canada John has represented the Scottish Government in Canada since 2022. Prior to joining the Scottish Government, John had spent most of his career in the UK Diplomatic Service. John’s substantive overseas postings have been New Delhi, Tallinn and Abu Dhabi. John was also a ‘floater,’ spending three years in over a dozen diplomatic missions overseas for short periods including Russia, China, Malawi, Uganda, Serbia, Mexico and the Falkland Islands. John also worked on Her Majesty The Queen’s historic State Visits to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. In his spare time, John likes to hit the cycling trails around Ottawa and Gatineau and in recent years has been hiking sections of the Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain—completing the 800-kilometre way just before his arrival in Canada. Born and raised in Glasgow, John is delighted to represent the Scottish Government in Canada—Scotland’s close ally and friend, with so many shared positions on the current global challenges and a warmth and affection between our peoples, unrivalled in the world. |
